Homework Reminder

Beginning today week 3rd graders are expected to read 100 minutes each week. Each Monday a reading log will come home for your child to keep track of their minutes read at home. They have the option of reading 20 for five days or reading for longer for fewer days.

READING MORE is always encouraged, but not required. 🙂

If a reading log goes missing, you are welcome to email me or record reading on any sheet of paper for your child for them to receive credit. 🙂

Also, 5 minutes of MobyMax-Monday through Thursday, & 5 minutes practicing fact cards (in your child’s take-home folder)

Word Study: We are establishing routines for grammar & spelling. This week we are working with the long “a” sound.

Writing: We have begun writing small moment stories

Reading: We launched our first reading unit: Building a Reading Life

Math: Unit #1- Multiplication & Division with 0-5, 9 & 10. (make sure your kids are practicing their flashcards as we introduce each fact. ONLY add a new fact for memorization AFTER they have mastered the previous. They should have the flashcards for 5’s in their Take Home folders. Please make sure these come back to school each day.)

Growth Mindset: We have learned about Growth Mindsets & Fixed Mindsets. With this, we learned that EVERYONE can learn and to do so we need to have a GROWTH mindset. We are also learning about our BRAIN and how each part of our brain has a special function.

Update!

M-STEP: This week the kids will take the MSTEP. We will be testing from 9:00 to Noon on Tuesday and Thursday of this week.

Providing extra nutritional snacks on the testing days, along with a water bottle — and adequate sleep during the testing period will help your children feel comfortable and get their brains ready. The kids are ready to do their personal best and will ROCK this assessment! 🙂

Field Trip: Your child should have brought home a note about our field trip to Meijer Garden on May 28. Please send in your child’s $2.00 by this Friday as well as the note indicating whether you would like to be in the drawing for parents that would like to join us a chaperone. Unfortunately, we can only select four parents for the trip to Meijer Garden, but if you are not chosen for that part of the trip, you are still welcome to join us at Hagar Park for lunch and play time if the weather permits. Here is a link about the field trip. Meijer Garden Field Trip

Homework:

Reading- Keep your kids reading. Recording their reading is no longer necessary.

Math- No math homework will be assigned on Study Island. Both Study Island and Moby-Max are still available to your children now and throughout the summer if you would like them to work on these programs.

More Snow??

I wanted to remind all of you of the Study Island homework that is posted every Monday. Very few kids are practicing during the week for their weekly Friday quiz. I realize with the CRAZY weather we all are having a challenging time developing routines.

However, I encourage you to have your child go to Study Island by logging onto CLEVER and doing the weekly assignment in the Homework class. All homework is a review from earlier units and the kids should be able to work on the assignment independently. If they need help, PLEASE do help them think through the work. 🙂

Also, below is the link to fill out about Thursday’s lunch. I have about 9 students that have NOT replied. I will order on Thursday morning instead of Wednesday because of the unexpectedness of additional snow days. You may send in your money when the kids return.

Thursday’s Plan & Order Form

I miss seeing the kids during our time away from school. Stay safe and keep warm.
