Update!

M-STEP: This week the kids will take the MSTEP. We will be testing from 9:00 to Noon on Tuesday and Thursday of this week.

Providing extra nutritional snacks on the testing days, along with a water bottle — and adequate sleep during the testing period will help your children feel comfortable and get their brains ready. The kids are ready to do their personal best and will ROCK this assessment! 🙂

Field Trip: Your child should have brought home a note about our field trip to Meijer Garden on May 28. Please send in your child’s $2.00 by this Friday as well as the note indicating whether you would like to be in the drawing for parents that would like to join us a chaperone. Unfortunately, we can only select four parents for the trip to Meijer Garden, but if you are not chosen for that part of the trip, you are still welcome to join us at Hagar Park for lunch and play time if the weather permits. Here is a link about the field trip. Meijer Garden Field Trip

Homework:

Reading- Keep your kids reading. Recording their reading is no longer necessary.

Math- No math homework will be assigned on Study Island. Both Study Island and Moby-Max are still available to your children now and throughout the summer if you would like them to work on these programs.

M-Step Testing

Grades 3-5 have been preparing to take the state test (M-STEP).  This is a required test and it will take place in the weeks immediately following spring break.

Please make sure you look ahead on your family calendar (Gr 3,4,5) to make sure that your child is at school on the days listed.   Please change any appointments so they do not occur the mornings of testing.

Also, provide extra nutritional snacks on the testing days, along with a water bottle — and adequate sleep during the testing period.

Testing takes place between 9-12 on these dates:
  • Grade 5  April 10, 11, 12, 17
  • Grade 4  May 8, 9, 10
  • Grade 3  April  24, 25, 26

What’s Coming Up- Week of April 17

Miscellaneous:

  • Your children are working so hard on the M-STEP! Please take a few minutes to congratulate your child for his or her efforts.
  • We have one more testing day this week:, Wednesday, April 19
  • On Thursday, April 20, we will be providing the fifth-grade students with a pizza lunch to celebrate their completion of the M-STEP.
    • Two pieces of pizza will be provided for each student. If students wish to have a side item or a drink, they are welcome to bring something from home.
    • Please remember that Georgetown is a pop free school.
  • Next Tuesday, April 25, we will be visiting Baldwin Street Middle School. One of the highlights of the visit for students is that they get to eat lunch in the cafeteria there.
    • A letter was sent home last week regarding how you can make sure that your child has money in his or her lunch account for that visit.
    • Students are welcome to bring their own lunch that day, but they will be responsible for carrying and keeping track of it.
  • April and May are very busy months for families of fifth-grade students. Click here for a list of upcoming dates.

Dear Parents,

Today, your child will bring home the results from their Spring 2015 M-STEP test.  The Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress (M-STEP) is a 21st Century test given each spring designed to gauge how well students are mastering state standards. These standards broadly outline what students should know and be able to do in order to be prepared to enter the workplace, career education training, and college.

This test reflects your child’s results from last spring.  M-STEP results, when combined with classroom work, report cards, local district assessments, and other tools, offer a comprehensive view of student progress and achievement.
