Updates for room 205!

Miscellaneous:

  • January 31-Early Release, 12:15pm dismissal
  • February 3 & 4-Winter Break
  • February 14-This year we will not be having a traditional party with centers. We will be sharing Valentine cards, so please help your child create a Valentine card for each classmate. In class, we will be making a Valentine craft to hold our Valentines. Here is a link with the classmates’ names. Valentine Class List We want to make this day as fun as possible but still keeping our day consistent. We will be doing some whole group Valentine-themed activities to build our classroom community, so parent volunteers will not be needed. Thanks so much!

The M-STEP State testing for grades 3-5 will take place this spring.  I wanted you to have information on the dates in advance so that you can schedule appointments around these testing dates.The dates for our M-STEP tests are as follows: Grade 3: May 5, 6, 7  (9am-12 pm)

Word Study: Contractions

Writing: Drafting our Our Informational Writing

Math: Beginning unit #4- Multidigit Addition and Subtraction

  Homework:

    • MobyMax- 4 times a week for 5 minutes Monday through Thursday
    • Study Island- One assignment with 10-20 questions Monday through Thursday. Your kids can do this assignment all in one night, or spread it out over the four days. I encourage you to sit alongside your child if they need help, or just to observe the work they are doing. Each Friday there will be a quiz on the homework material.
    • If your child does not get a passing grade on the quiz I will send home a paper copy of the quiz for you to work through with your child. Please sign and return once you have reviewed the quiz with your child.

Reading: We are in the last bend of our Reading to Learn unit. It focuses on Narrative Nonfiction using biographies.

  • Homework– The kids are doing a great job doing their 100 minutes of reading each week. Remember logs are due on Mondays!

Social Studies: We are at the beginning of our unit Economics of Michigan.

Updates for room 205!

Welcome back! We are working hard to get back into our school routines. Now that we are starting our second full week back together we will start our Study Island homework. Be sure to check your email for more detailed information.

Miscellaneous- January 31st- Early Release Friday. Students dismissed at 12:15.

Word Study- We are working on words with the features are, air, oar, ore, and ure.

Writing- Today we organized our ideas to write our information books.

Reading – We are in the middle of our reading unit titled Reading to Learn: Grasping Main Ideas and Text Structures.

  • Homework is 100 minutes reading each week

Math- Tomorrow we will be doing our Test review for our Unit #3-Measurement. The test will be this Thursday!

  • Homework: MobyMax 4 times a week for 5 minutes Monday through Thursday
  • Study Island: One assignment with 10-20 questions Monday through Thursday. I encourage you to sit alongside your child if they need help, or just to observe the work they are doing.

Social Studies- We just began our unit of The Economy of Michigan.

  • November 18-21, Book Fair (you are welcome to shop and purchase anytime this week) Our class will view the Book Fair on November 18 and we have scheduled a time to purchase on Wednesday, 11/20
  • November 26, Field Trip to the Grand Rapid Art Museum. Permission slips are due  TOMORROW, Monday, November 11. Field Trip Permission Slip
  • November 27- December 1, Thanksgiving Break

Homework: Continue to read 100 minutes/week, and 5 minutes of MobyMax fact fluency Monday through Thursday.

Reading- We are in the middle of our second unit, Mysteries: Foundational Skills in Disguise. The kids are LOVING it! 🙂

Math-We will finish up Unit #2: Multiplication with 6, 7, and 8’s and Multiply with Multiples of 10. A test review went home last Thursday and the test will be Tuesday this week. We will begin Unit #3: Measurement, Time & Graphs this week.

Word Study: We are in our 6th week of studying words. I am excited to see the growth the kids have made in this first marking period.

Writing: We are at the beginning of our writing unit of Persuasive Writing. This week the kids will be expanding the planning of their piece of writing.

October 18- Early Release Friday, dismissal @ 12:15

October 29- Turkey Trot. Please read this post for registration and details concerning this year’s Turkey Trot. Deadline to Register is October 9, 2019.

Homework: 

    • 5 minutes of MobyMax-Monday through Thursday, & 5 minutes practicing fact cards (in your child’s take-home folder)
    • The first reading log is due tomorrow! Each week 3rd graders are expected to read 100 minutes. Expect a new reading log each Monday for students to keep track of their minutes read at home. They have the option of reading 20 for five days or reading for longer for fewer days. READING MORE is always encouraged, but not required. 🙂
